With the Premier Cima Pro, Bergara has unveiled what may be the most ambitious hunting rifle in the company’s history. Designed for serious mountain hunters, equipped with cutting-edge carbon technology, and built around an all-new action, the Cima Pro aims to prove that true premium performance doesn’t have to come with a premium price tag.

Anyone who spends time hunting steep alpine terrain knows that every ounce matters. Sooner or later, even a few extra pounds become noticeable. That’s exactly where the Bergara Premier Cima Pro shines.

Purpose-built for hunters who tackle long climbs, challenging spot-and-stalk hunts, and demanding long-range shots, the Spanish-made rifle combines an advanced carbon construction with a completely redesigned Premier action. Weighing just 7.6 pounds (3.45 kg), it enters the premium lightweight hunting rifle category with confidence.

Bergara’s rise to this point didn’t happen overnight. Based in Spain’s historic Basque Country, the company first earned its reputation by producing world-class precision barrels long before it ever built complete rifles. Those barrels quickly became favorites among competitive long-range shooters and custom gunsmiths. Eventually, Bergara expanded into complete firearms, and its B14 Series became an international success, offering exceptional accuracy at an affordable price.

The Premier Series, however, represents an entirely different philosophy. Instead of chasing value alone, Bergara set out to compete directly with the world’s leading premium rifle manufacturers. Stainless-steel actions, advanced carbon construction, TriggerTech triggers, and tighter manufacturing tolerances define the lineup.

The Cima Pro is the flagship of that vision.

More Than an Updated B14

David describes the newly developed carbon-fiber stock as outstanding, praising its exceptional rigidity, lightweight construction, and excellent ergonomics for demanding mountain hunts.

“This isn’t just an improved B14,” says firearms expert David Mischkulnig of Alpen Adria Jagd & Sportwaffen in Villach, Austria, who evaluated the rifle for Shot & Stillness. “This is an entirely new platform.”

The first thing that stands out is the newly developed carbon-fiber stock. Despite its remarkably light weight, it feels incredibly rigid and inspires confidence the moment you pick it up.

Rather than simply wrapping a stock in carbon fiber, Bergara integrates a true carbon chassis into the stock itself. The result is increased stiffness, improved bedding stability, and the kind of repeatable accuracy serious hunters demand.

The ergonomics are equally impressive. The steep pistol grip promotes a natural trigger hand position, while the higher comb aligns perfectly with today’s low-mounted optics. Combined with the soft-touch finish, the stock remains secure even in wet, cold mountain conditions.

A Carbon Barrel That Does More Than Save Weight

The barrel is another highlight. Instead of relying solely on a carbon sleeve, Bergara uses an extremely thin stainless-steel core wrapped in carbon fiber. This construction not only reduces weight but also increases rigidity while improving heat dissipation.

On the range, the difference became immediately apparent. The barrel heats up noticeably slower than a conventional steel barrel and cools down surprisingly fast between shot strings.

While this may not be a decisive advantage during a typical hunting day, it becomes highly valuable during extended practice sessions, where consistent barrel temperatures help maintain accuracy.

The Heart of the Rifle: Premier Gen2 Action

Firearms expert David came away highly impressed with the new Premier Gen2 action, praising its exceptionally smooth bolt travel, refined engineering, and rock-solid construction.

Bergara also invested heavily in the rifle’s action. The new Premier Gen2 action is machined entirely from 416 stainless steel and aggressively skeletonized to eliminate unnecessary weight. Lightening cuts throughout the receiver, an enlarged ejection port, and carefully engineered machining all contribute to a lighter yet exceptionally rigid platform.

The fluted bolt cycles smoothly thanks to an extended guidance system that keeps it perfectly aligned. Two ejectors ensure spent cases are thrown clear every time—even when cycling the bolt slowly during a quiet stalk.

The Cima Pro’s fluted bolt cycles exceptionally smooth, combining reduced weight with reliable operation and the refined feel expected from a premium hunting rifle.

The rifle also features a fully adjustable TriggerTech Black trigger, widely regarded as one of the finest factory hunting triggers available today.

Bergara has also maintained full Remington 700 compatibility, giving owners access to one of the largest aftermarket ecosystems in the firearms industry.

Traditional Where It Matters

One feature that stands out in today’s market is Bergara’s decision to use a traditional hinged floorplate magazine instead of a detachable box magazine.

For David, that’s actually a major advantage.

“You can lose a detachable magazine. This one always stays exactly where it belongs—in the rifle.”

For hunters spending several days in the backcountry or climbing rugged mountain terrain, that simple design choice offers welcome peace of mind.

Accuracy Speaks for Itself

The Cima Pro was tested with Norma Bondstrike and Norma Odin ammunition.

As expected, the rifle responded differently to each load. While the Bondstrike delivered solid hunting accuracy, the Norma Odin clearly emerged as the favorite, producing exceptionally tight groups.

For David, it reinforced an old truth every experienced hunter knows:

“Not every rifle likes every load. But once you find the right combination, that’s when a quality rifle really comes alive.”

A Serious Contender in the Premium Market

The Premier Cima Pro demonstrates just how far Bergara has come.

What started as a respected barrel manufacturer has evolved into a company capable of competing directly with some of the biggest names in premium hunting rifles.

With its lightweight carbon barrel, integrated carbon chassis, TriggerTech trigger, and advanced Premier Gen2 action, the Cima Pro delivers a package that rivals rifles costing significantly more.

For hunters looking for a lightweight, mountain-ready rifle that combines modern engineering with exceptional accuracy, the Bergara Premier Cima Pro deserves a place on the shortlist.

Bergara traces its roots to Spain’s Basque Country, a region renowned for centuries of firearms craftsmanship. Named after the town of Bergara in the province of Gipuzkoa, the company originally focused on manufacturing premium precision barrels.

Through state-of-the-art machining, rigorous quality control, and relentless attention to detail, Bergara quickly established itself among competitive shooters and long-range enthusiasts before earning the trust of hunters around the world.

The launch of the B14 Series marked Bergara’s international breakthrough in the hunting rifle market. Combining outstanding accuracy, dependable reliability, and excellent value, the B14 became one of the company’s biggest success stories.

Today, Bergara’s lineup includes everything from hunting rifles to dedicated long-range platforms, with the Premier Series representing the brand’s highest level of craftsmanship. These rifles are assembled in the United States using premium components and are designed for hunters and precision shooters who demand uncompromising performance.

With the Premier Cima Pro, Bergara once again demonstrates that innovation, premium materials, and real-world hunting functionality can coexist in one rifle. The company has successfully evolved from a respected barrel maker into one of the most exciting names in today’s premium hunting rifle market—and the Cima Pro may well be its strongest statement yet.
