Bergara Premier Elevate: Precision Without Limits

Carbon chassis. Carbon barrel. TriggerTech trigger. 7mm PRC. On paper, the new Bergara Premier Elevate reads like a wish list for today’s serious long-range hunter. But is it truly a purpose-built hunting rifle, or simply a competition rifle dressed in camouflage? For Shot & Stillness, firearms expert David took Bergara’s latest flagship into the field and onto the range to find out.
One glance at the Premier Elevate makes its mission obvious. The futuristic MDT carbon chassis, free-floated action, carbon-wrapped barrel, and heavy-duty 20-MOA Picatinny railresemble something you’d expect on a precision rifle competition line rather than in a mountain hunting camp. That was exactly Bergara’s intention.
The Spanish manufacturer set out to combine two worlds that rarely meet successfully: the lightweight portability demanded by mountain hunters with the extreme precision expected from modern long-range rifles.
From Barrel Maker to Global Rifle Brand
Many shooters know Bergara for its rifles. Fewer know the company actually began as a premium barrel manufacturer. Based in Spain’s Basque Country—a region with centuries of firearms-making tradition—Bergara originally focused on producing match-grade barrels using manufacturing techniques developed in part by legendary American barrel maker Ed Shilen. Only later did the company begin building complete bolt-action rifles.
Today, Bergara’s Premier Series represents the pinnacle of its lineup.
While the popular B-14 Series targets traditional hunters, the Premier rifles occupy an entirely different class.
At the heart of every Premier rifle sits a precision-machined 416 stainless steel action built around the legendary Remington 700 footprint. That means shooters gain access to one of the largest aftermarket ecosystems in the firearms industry, including stocks, triggers, chassis systems, scope bases, and countless accessories.
MDT HNT26: One of the Finest Hunting Chassis Available
David only needs a few seconds holding the rifle before smiling. “It’s unbelievably light.” He’s right. The MDT HNT26, designed in Canada, is widely regarded as one of the finest hunting chassis currently available. It was engineered specifically for hunters who spend long days covering steep mountain terrain without sacrificing precision.
A magnesium core provides exceptional structural strength while carbon fiber keeps overall weight incredibly low. The complete chassis weighs under 700 grams (1.5 pounds)—numbers that would have seemed impossible only a few years ago.
David especially appreciates its ergonomics.
The nearly vertical AR-style pistol grip naturally positions the wrist and trigger finger, while the adjustable cheekpiece allows a perfect fit with virtually any optic. Length of pull can be customized with spacers, and M-LOK attachment points accommodate bipods, ARCA rails, and additional accessories.
Perhaps most importantly, the action bolts directly into the chassis without traditional bedding. That dramatically increases rigidity—and rigidity is where precision begins.
Bergaras CURE Carbon Barrel
Carbon-wrapped barrels have become increasingly common in today’s hunting rifles. Bergara’s CURE Carbon Barrel, however, takes a different approach. At its core is a precision steel barrel wrapped in carbon fiber. Bergara also integrates stainless steel fibers into the carbon structure to improve heat transfer and minimize localized hot spots commonly associated with conventional carbon barrels.
The result is more uniform heating and noticeably faster cooling. David quickly notices the difference on the range. “Even after several rounds, the barrel is only warm to the touch. That’s genuinely impressive.” The test rifle features a 24.4-inch (62 cm) barrel—an ideal length for maximizing the ballistic performance of the 7mm PRC.
7mm PRC: Built for Distance
Hornady designed the 7mm Precision Rifle Cartridge (PRC) specifically for modern, high-ballistic-coefficient bullets. Unlike the older 7mm Remington Magnum, the cartridge was engineered from the ground up to deliver optimal long-range performance.

For this evaluation, David selected Norma’s Bondstrike 165-grain hunting load.

Even at 500 meters, the cartridge still delivers approximately 2,480 joules (1,830 ft-lbs) of energy—more than sufficient for large-bodied big game when shots are placed correctly.
As always, ethical hunting begins with precise shot placement.
TriggerTech: When the Shot Breaks Like Glass
Bergara equips the Premier Elevate with the Canadian-made TriggerTech Black trigger. Rather than relying on traditional sear surfaces sliding across one another, TriggerTech’s patented Frictionless Release Technology uses roller-supported components that virtually eliminate friction.
The result is immediately noticeable. No creep. No stacking. No gritty movement.
David adjusts the pull weight to approximately 600 grams (1.3 pounds).

Premier Action with Impressive Attention to Detail
The bolt demonstrates just how much engineering has gone into the Premier action.
Its fluted stainless-steel body cycles exceptionally smoothly thanks to precisely machined bearing surfaces that guide the bolt almost without play. Dual plunger ejectors ensure positive extraction and reliable case ejection—even when cycling the action slowly.
It’s a small detail, but one that reflects thoughtful engineering throughout the rifle.
Range Performance: An Excellent First Impression
Testing took place at 100 meters. Like any new precision rifle, the Premier Elevate requires a brief break-in period before barrel and action fully settle together. Even so, the early groups reveal significant promise.
The combination of the CURE Carbon Barrel, Premier action, and TriggerTech trigger consistently produces tight, repeatable groups. David believes carefully tailored handloads—or ammunition specifically matched to the rifle—could further improve accuracy. Bergara backs that confidence with its Sub-MOA accuracy guarantee when quality match or premium factory ammunition is used.
Lightweight Performance Comes with Trade-Off
Weighing just under 2.9 kilograms (6.4 pounds) without optics or accessories, the Premier Elevate is remarkably light for a rifle chambered in 7mm PRC.
For mountain hunters, every saved ounce matters. The MDT HNT26 chassis and CURE Carbon Barrel make the Elevate an outstanding choice for physically demanding hunts where long climbs are unavoidable. However, lightweight rifles introduce compromises.
Mounting a heavy long-range optic can quickly erase much of the rifle’s weight advantage.
The Kahles K624i used during testing pairs beautifully with the Elevate’s precision-focused design, but the fully equipped rifle reaches approximately 4.65 kilograms (10.3 pounds).
Hunters prioritizing alpine mobility would likely benefit from a significantly lighter optic.
Lightweight rifles also generate more noticeable recoil, muzzle rise, and rifle movement during firing.
With cartridges like the 7mm PRC, shooters must maintain excellent fundamentals.
Proper body position, consistent support, and disciplined shooting technique become even more critical than with heavier precision rifles.
We’ve already observed similar behavior with ultralight mountain rifles like the Steyr Gams.
They are wonderful to carry uphill—but demand greater skill once the trigger breaks.
The Premier Elevate deliberately walks that same fine line.
It remains light enough for serious mountain hunting while retaining the precision necessary to exploit the capabilities of today’s advanced long-range cartridges. Hunters choosing the 7mm PRC should understand exactly what they’re getting: Less weight during the climb. More responsibility behind the trigger.
Not Without Criticism
No rifle is perfect. David’s primary criticism concerns the AICS-pattern steel magazine. Its reliability is unquestionable, but he would prefer a more compact design. “It protrudes farther than I’d like and rattles a little. Functionally it’s excellent—but visually, less would sometimes be more.”
The Bergara Premier Elevate is not a rifle built for everyone. It wasn’t designed for sitting over a feeder at 80 yards. Nor was it intended as a general-purpose lightweight hunting rifle. Its natural environment begins where precision truly matters—high-country hunts, demanding mountain terrain, and shooters who regularly train to maximize the capabilities of modern long-range equipment.
The combination of the CURE Carbon Barrel, MDT HNT26 chassis, Premier action, and TriggerTech trigger creates a package that competes confidently against some of the finest precision hunting rifles in its class.
